Building A Portfolio For Complete Beginners

Remember:

You don’t need clients to build a portfolio.

If you’re just starting out as a freelancer and you have absolutely zero real world projects to show, you can still build a simple portfolio,

Here’s how:

— • 01 Thread 🧵

Clients need to know what to expect if they hire you as a freelancer.

Most people are not going to gamble on someone with zero work to show even if you offer to do it for FREE so this is what I would do

— • 02 Thread 🧵

I would pick a website, identify a problem, and come up with a solution

An example would be a dentist website

I will identify design problems with the landing page find better ways to improve overall website UI with the goal of increasing their appointments

The second example would be an app landing page that could use some design improvement, increase conversions and downloads to the app

I would treat it as if I am working on a client project. You could even email the company to pitch your new design

— • 03 Thread 🧵

I’ll make sure I have at least two projects in my portfolio and then showcase it online

I’m not gonna spend months preparing a portfolio. I would launch it quickly, make improvements as I go.
